UFL Salary Range: Understanding Player and Coach Earnings
By Helix Odhiambo
UFL players earn attractive salaries that inspire growth and skill development, although their compensation is notably lower than the NFL’s. However, the pay is enough to support players as they adjust and build their careers over just a few months.
The United Football League (UFL), a new American professional minor league, debuted in March 2024 after merging the XFL and the United States Football League. Quickly gaining traction, it has attracted a mix of talent and investment. Here, we take a closer look at how the UFL salary structure compares to that of the NFL.
UFL Salary and Compensation
With the launch of the UFL, player salaries were improved, and new perks like housing stipends and performance bonuses were introduced. The inaugural 2024 season kicked off on March 30 and ended on June 2.
According to the UFL News Hub, players on active rosters earned $5,500 per week during the 2024 season. In contrast, players who were inactive but still under contract received $2,500 weekly. Additionally, players received a weekly camp compensation of $850 and a housing stipend of $400.
While the National Football League typically offers higher salaries to quarterbacks compared to other positions, the newly merged United Football League (UFL) has opted for an equal pay structure across all positions. UFL football operations chief Daryl Johnston explained this approach to ESPN, saying:
“Our quarterbacks are paid the same as everybody else. The goal is to maintain fiscal responsibility. We’ve received some pushback on this, which is understandable. Quarterbacks can argue that the value of their position should command a higher salary, and they’re right to feel that way.”
The UFL’s commitment to a flat salary structure aims to foster balance across the league, despite some objections from players in key positions.
